InstaCoustic completed a major, high profile contract at the Athletes’ Village for the London Olympics, home to over 14,000 athletes and officials and 4,200 during the Paralympic Games. In five of the 11 tower blocks that make up the Village, over 75,000m2 of InstaCoustic’s cradle & batten raised acoustic flooring was installed, the majority by its own contracting teams.
The C40 system, which complies with Robust Detail FFT2, uses patented rubber crumb cradles, manufactured from recycled tyre rubber, that are environmentally friendly and have a 60 year guarantee. Furthermore, the system can be levelled on-site to eliminate variations in the sub-floor surface to produce a fully level finished floor.
The architects also had to consider the post-games legacy, as these apartments will be used to create over 2,800 new homes for the people of London. These will include nearly 1,400 affordable homes and 1,000 family residences of three and four bedrooms. Consequently, the requirement was for a floor system that was durable, provided excellent acoustic performance and accommodated an efficient underfloor heating system, while also meeting the needs of modern apartment buildings and the strict acoustic regulations.
