Kingsland Wharves is a major new ‘village’ development set around the historic wharves of the Regent’s Canal in north London. The site includes five new apartment buildings blending with four carefully restored historic buildings housing shops, restaurants, cafes bars and offices.
The client required high quality acoustic flooring in order to meet the requirements of Building Regulations, Part E, and of the five residential blocks, named Hertford, Downham, Canal, De Beauvoir and Commercial Wharves, InstaCoustic raised acoustic flooring was installed in the first three.
Main contractor, Durkan, recommended the C40 cradle and batten system based on price, quality, the service from InstaCoustic and previous good experience of the system. Furthermore, it could also be used in some areas of the refurbished buildings to overcome uneven subfloors, as it can be laser-levelled on site to produce a level finished floor.
Durkan also undertook full installation of the C40 flooring, which comprised rubber crumb acoustic cradles, made from recycled tyre rubber, timber battens and 18mm chipboard. Due to the site constraints, the InstaCoustic system allowed Durkan to be flexible in the use of their staff to produce an efficient installation programme while InstaCoustic’s ability to meet the schedule’s logistical requirements was equally important.
In total 7,000m2 of cradle and batten flooring was installed throughout 168 flats to produce high levels of sound insulation, with acoustic performance in excess of the required levels, and a comfortable living environment for their new owners.
