A new, innovative, high-performance sports floor system, developed through a partnership between InstaCoustic and flooring specialist Gerflor , has been installed for the first time in the UK at the Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre in Coventry. The versatile, impact-energy absorbing floor is suitable for a wide range of sports and non-sporting activities. The flooring system, which is quick to install, is ideal for such an application as it is slim, lightweight, and cost-effective.
In all, around 750m² of the sprung flooring was installed at the centre. It comprises of Gerflor’s Taraflex Sport M+, combined with a loose-laid undercarriage system from InstaCoustic, made up of undulating recycled rubber crumb ‘waves’ pre-bonded to 18mm sustainably sourced plywood. The ‘combined elastic system’ offers a unique versatility to accommodate the wide range of sports to be played, the level of sport and the varying user profiles.
Importantly, the floor is fully compliant with European standards for indoor sports, meeting BS EN 14904 and achieving Type C4 floor requirements.
Quick and easy to install onto a level subfloor, the finished flooring is only 35mm thick while the individual panels weigh just 13kg. The Coventry installation took just three days; using other undercarriage systems, an installation of this size would normally take around a week. A significant reduction!
Gerflor’s Taraflex sports flooring combines a number of performance-winning features. Triple-action Protecsol® provides an ‘intelligent’ surface treatment which is ‘friction burn free’ and ultra low maintenance. The flooring also incorporates a multi-layered surface, foam backing and Sanosol® antibacterial and fungicidal treatment.
