Carrying out contract work on a major construction site can be a complex undertaking. In order to ensure that operations run smoothly, both with regards to our own work and in our relationships with management and other contractors, it is critical that all members of the InstaCoustic supply and install team clearly understand all aspects of their role, adopt a professional attitude and comply with all relevant regulations.
We believe this to be an extremely important part of our business as it ensures that we carry out our contract work very efficiently, while also making the InstaCoustic name synonymous with good practice. Our products and our installations are then held in high regard and this puts us in a good position when negotiating new contracts.
This professional ethos has demonstrated its benefits at the recent Ocean Estate project in London’s Tower Hamlets, a £200m regeneration scheme for East Thames Development Consortium by Wates Living Space. On this major contract we have been installing our InstaCoustic cradle and batten acoustic flooring on all upper floors, as well as the underfloor heating, and InstaLay acoustic underlay on the ground floors.
All of the many sub-contractors on site are marked, on an on-going basis, against a scoring matrix which takes into account all aspects of work performance. These range from health and safety compliance to correct work wear PPE – for example, points are deducted if an operative is not wearing safety glasses – and the results are displayed on a large scoreboard at the site entrance. At the time of writing, InstaCoustic was in first place for the third consecutive month.
This enviable position was only achieved because our focused approach, ensuring all Health & Safety principles are adopted, understood and implemented, underpins our company Health & Safety Strategy. We undertake regular training sessions and site meetings and are committed to having all our site supervisors qualified to NVQ level 3 as a minimum, all our operatives to NVQ level 2 as a minimum, with some management being NVQ level 6. We believe this proactive approach is essential for all concerned, to ensure we deliver a highly professional and efficient contracting service that is beneficial and rewarding for our own operatives and our clients.
